PolyCore™ case with semi-rigid sidewalls & bottom.* This case is the same size as the L521 but is more flexible.
• For 400/2.8 lenses with a body attached and hood reversed (with leatherette lens cover).
• For all 600/4 lenses without the body attached and hood reversed (with leatherette lens cover). Also will hold some 600s with a body attached.
• For 300/2.8, 500/4 or 500/4.5 lenses** with a body attached and hood reversed (with leatherette lens cover)

This case will not will not hold Nikon 600/4 AF-S or AF-S II lens unless a Wimberely adapter plate is used (#AP-652 or #AP-452, $79.00) in place of the OEM "very tall mounting foot" supplied by Nikon..

**Note: This case is sized to fit large booster-driven SLRs bodies (with a little room to spare to you can reach in and around the body) and 400/2.8 lens. You may find the 300/2.8 lens dwarfed by the large inside diameter of this case. We highly recommend the $19 L029 Foam Insert when using a 300mm or 500mm with this case. Otherwise choose the more compact E980, L311 or L511 instead.

• External pouch attachment options:
- One A257 or M330 can be attached in the lower center of the case. Another similar double-wide pouch can be attached above and centered on the upper part of the case (although the bottom pouch may be difficult to access).
- Two single-wide pouches (E110, E280 etc.) can be attached to either side of the A257, covering the collaspable pockets.
- A double-wide pouch (A257, M330 etc.) can be attached to either side of the lower side of the case, but this attachment location is a little loose which may cause the pouch to shift around a little, unless secured with a Y205 strap.
- A double-wide pouch (A257, M330 etc.) can be attached to the lower back or flat part of the case, although this disables use of any backpack harness or may make using a shoulder strap awkward.

• Tripod use: Remove the A257 center pouch (shown in photo above) and replace it with a T164 or T317 pouch for attaching a tripod (see this page for pix). Attach a Y204 to the top of the case to hold the top part of the tripod. The A257 can then be reattached to the upper or lower part of the case, slightly off center.

This model features two major design changes compared to our PolyCore™ models:
1) A knockdown modular approach. The inside foam side walls completely remove, making this it possible for this case to fold flat. Some of our customers and professional guides are now having to rethink how they get all their gear on location for extended shoots. Some are shipping their long lenses ahead in Pelican or other hard case via FedEx or other carrier, while others are putting their big glass in a hard-side case and checking in the belly of the plane. Meanwhile, this case can be shipped flat with your regular luggage. This new case will provide a useful field bag, once you AND your lens have arrived. The hard-side cases are great for shipping, but lousy for actual field work.
2) Lighter weight construction than PolyCore™ models. The walls and lid are made from 12mm (1/2") dense closed-cell foam. This thickness is similar to the that offered by other manufacturers. The bottom is lined with 19mm PolyCore™, the exact same bottom as our tough PolyCore™ cases. Because of the weight savings, this case is especially useful for those trekking in long distances.

You may attach piggy-back style two double-wide pouches and four single-wide pouches (including the provided double-wide A257 pouch). Although the diameter is the same as the L521 PolyCore™ case (which is NOT big enough for the new Nikon 600s), this case WILL hold the new 600/4 Nikon AF-S (Silent Wave) because of the soft side-walls give a little for the extra long foot on the Nikon 600s.

*PolyCore™ is an exclusive Kinesis design offering semi-rigid side walls yielding more protection than traditional soft-side cases.

Weight with A257 pouch & shoulder strap: 1.25kg

Double-wide allotment on belt or packframe.
(Realistically, this case is too large to conveniently wear on a belt).

*Inside Diameter:
The "dia" dimension is the maxium diameter of the front element and/or lens cover that will fit inside this case. The circumference of this case is 71cm (27-7/8") and measures the entire inside perimeter of the "D" shape of the case. It is larger than 3.14 times the diameter to allow extra room for the lens tripod foot.

*Inside Height:
There is a little give in the lid Velcro, allowing a lens/body combo up to 53cm (21") to fit inside this case.

**Outside Diameter:
Please note than the outside diameter of the lid is 28cm (11").

To reduce the diameter of the bottom of the case consider a long lens case foam insert.
