NOTICE: We have had a number of complaints because 300/2.8s, 400/4s and 200-400s are getting "lost" in this case -- we strongly advise purchasing the L029 Foam Insert (which reduces the diameter near the front element) or consider the E970 case instead.

[L511b] Compact Long Lens Case 500, $215.00

  • Designed for 500/4 or Nikon 200-400/4 lens with hood reversed (with leatherette lens cover) with body attached (any size body such as Nikon D2 series or Canon 1-series will fit).
  • Also fits a 300/2.8 with hood in shooting position (with leatherette lens cover) + teleconverter + a DSLR body (with Arca-swiss plate on lens) or for a for 500/4 or Nikon 200-400/4 lens with hood reversed (with leatherette lens cover) with body attached.
  • Compact soft side case (as opposed to the semi-rigid side-walls of our PolyCore cases). This case offers similar protection to other long lens cases made by Lowepro, Tenba, Lightware etc. The side walls utilizes 12mm closed cell foam, the lid uses 10mm foam and the base has 13mm rigid PolyCore
  • External pouch attachment options:
    - One A257 or M330 can be attached in the lower center of the case. Another similar double-wide pouch can be attached above and centered on the upper part of the case (although the bottom pouch may be difficult to access).
    - Two single-wide pouches (E110, E280 etc.) can be attached to either side of the A257, covering the collaspable pockets.
    - A double-wide pouch (A257, M330 etc.) can be attached to either side of the lower side of the case, but this attachment location is a little loose which may cause the pouch to shift around a little, unless secured with a Y205 strap.
    - A double-wide pouch (A257, M330 etc.) can be attached to the lower back or flat part of the case, although this disables use of any backpack harness or may make using a shoulder strap awkward.
  • Tripod use: Remove the A257 center pouch (shown in photo above) and replace it with a T164 or T317 pouch for attaching a tripod (see this page for pix). Attach a Y204 to the top of the case to hold the top part of the tripod. The A257 can then be reattached to the upper or lower part of the case, slightly off center.

Field report (Sep 05): The following combination will fit inside this case: Nikon 600/4 AF-S with the larger diameter hood piece removed and with a Moose Peterson lens cap & Kirk low-profile tripod foot.

Shown below is a legend used throughout this Website.
Sizes given are inside dimensions.
The diameter is the distance straight across the circle on cylindrical products.

Double-wide allotment on belt or pack frame.
(Realistically, this case is too large to conveniently wear on a belt).

*The diameter is the maxium diameter of the front element and/or lens cover.
The circumference of this case is 66cm (26") and measures the entire inside perimeter of the "D" shape of the case. It is larger than 3.14 times the diameter to allow extra room for the lens tripod foot.

To reduce the diameter of the bottom of the case consider a L029 foam insert.

Add height to your L511 case. Although not designed for the L311 or L511, the L128 will fit these cases with a special L228 made-to-order adapter strap. $6.00.
